Welcome to

Collegium Musicum

Celebrating our 50th Anniversary

The Choir and Orchestra Collegium Musicum Costa del Sol is a non-profit musical ensemble comprising amateur and professional orchestra musicians and vocalists. We aim to create an appreciation of classical music amongst our members and audiences along Spain’s Costa del Sol. Our main performances occur twice yearly – one at the end of May and the other over Christmas. New members are always welcome to join either our choir or our orchestra.

LET’S MAKE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC TOGETHER

If you love singing or can play a musical instrument, we invite you to join our multinational and friendly music society. Under the leadership of our conductor, Delyth Bressington, we meet for weekly rehearsals in preparation for public appearances along the Costa del Sol.

We are always on the lookout for new members. So if you live on the Costa del Sol either temporarily or permanently, then don’t hesitate to contact us. If you used to belong to a choir, or perhaps you want to dust off a long-neglected skill in music-making, but mostly, you’d like to make music your next favourite pastime, please get in touch.

Collegium Musicum has several retired professional orchestral musicians in our ranks who are happy to pass on their invaluable experience. Whatever your experience of singing in choirs or your level of reading music, you are sure to enjoy a warm, welcoming and friendly atmosphere while simultaneously getting to know some wonderful works of music.

No auditions are necessary, but we encourage regular rehearsal attendance which takes place every Tuesday evening in Las Lagunas on the Costa del Sol.

CDs and online audio files are provided to all members based on their vocal range (soprano, alto, tenor or bass) to facilitate practising at home.

Even if you’re unsure, we suggest you come along and sit in on a rehearsal. Fill in the following form with your contact details, and let us know what voice you sing or what instrument you play.

    What we do

    THE CHOIR & ORCHESTRA

Collegium Musicum is characterised by the presence of a mix of amateurs and professional musicians, young and old performing both vocal and instrumental music for pleasure. We are a flourishing and inclusive international society that reflects the cosmopolitan nature of the Costa del Sol with more than 100 singers and musicians from some 20 nationalities.

In our concerts we perform a variety of choral music from the last 400 years, usually accompanied by instruments and orchestral music. Music ranges from the Renaissance through the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods (e.g. Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn) up to works by contemporary composers such as Karl Jenkins and John Rutter.

Collegium Musicum is a non-profit society, united by our love of music and it is not affiliated to any religion, state or ideology. Members pay a yearly fee, but we are still very dependent on sponsorship from supporters and patrons whose generosity allows us to offer concerts of a very high calibre.

    A unique SOCIETY

What makes our society so unique, is that it is the only musical society based on the coast of southern Spain that allows amateur singers and musicians to make music alongside professionals.

Rehearsals take place in Las Lagunas – Mijas Costa every Tuesday evening from September to May and our popular concerts are held twice yearly, in May and at Christmas time.

One performance is always given in Marbella and the other somewhere in the area between Benalmádena and Sotogrande. We also perform at weddings and funerals and sometimes in the spring we like to present a completely different programme of less serious music in different venues.

Our season finishes in June with our Annual General Meeting.

Our successful concerts are the result of intensive work and regular attendance at our weekly rehearsals, despite the fact that many members also need to spend months away in their home countries.
