Presenting Violinist – Inés Maro Burgos Babakhanian

Inés Maro Burgos Babakhanian, aged 14, is a native of Madrid whose grandmother is from Ojén, Marbella. She has studied violin since she was 4 years old and at the age of 9 years she discovered recordings of the great violinist, Yehudi Menuhin on her father’s iPad. She was so enamored of his playing that she asked where he was buried. Upon discovering that he was laid to rest in the grounds of the school which he had founded for children from 10-18 years old like Inés who knew that they wanted to be violinists, she persisted until her parents sent an application to the school. She was admitted to the Yehudi Menuhin School near London in 2019 where she currently studies with Akiko Ono. In 2019, she debuted in Spain’s National Auditorium playing the Czardas with the “Filarmonia” Orchestra.

Inés Maro has regularly performed recitals in the Town Hall of Ojén, which she considers her village and is thrilled to be able to perform for all her family in Andalucía.

In 2022 she won second prize in the prestigious International Ilona Feher Competition in Budapest and returned in February 2024 to perform the Bach A major concerto with the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra.

In October 2023 Ines performed the Mendelssohn violin concerto with the National Orchestra of Uzbekistan. In 2023 she won the National Competition of Young Performers of Estepona; this prize came with invitations to perform a recital at the Málaga Philharmonic Society which she gave in April, and in November to perform the Glasunov violin concerto with the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra.

Inés Maro is performing this concerto with Collegium Musicum as the winner of our “Annemarie Philipps Memorial Prize” also awarded to her in Estepona.
