Standing Ovations in Fuengirola and Marbella for Collegium Musicum’s Anniversary Concerts

Audiences in Fuengirola and Marbella were treated to an evening of exceptional music as Collegium Musicum, under the inspired direction of Delyth Bressington, delivered two unforgettable performances.

With a programme that paired Mozart’s emotional depth with Bizet’s operatic charm, both concerts received enthusiastic standing ovations.

The evening opened with Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor, KV 550, one of the composer’s most powerful and emotionally charged works. The orchestra captured the drama and tension of the Molto allegro, the stately grace of the Menuetto, and the driving momentum of the Allegro assai, showcasing both precision and expressive range.

This was followed by a moment of operatic intimacy with the beloved duet “Au fond du Temple Saint” from Georges Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers. Tenor Luis María Pacetti and baritone José Antonio Ariza gave a moving performance, their voices blending with warmth and emotional depth, earning a heartfelt response from the audience.

The second half featured the centrepiece of the evening: Mozart’s monumental “Great” Mass in C minor, KV 427. From the opening Kyrie to the triumphant Osanna, the choir and soloists delivered a performance of great beauty and intensity. Sopranos Emma Morwood and Sophie Gallagher stood out in their solos and duets, especially in the ethereal Et incarnatus est and the lyrical Domine Deus. The quartet shone in the Benedictus, while the choir displayed power and sensitivity throughout, particularly in the stirring Cum Sancto Spiritu.

With these concerts, Collegium Musicum once again affirmed its status as one of the premier musical ensembles on the Costa del Sol. The performances, set against the stunning backdrop of Marbella’s Church of La Encarnación and the welcoming auditorium in Fuengirola, were a true celebration of classical music at its finest.
